Tapestry from the story of Gombaut and Macée, 17th-century Belgian work. Part of a tapestry in wool and silk from the famous "Cortège Nuptial" of Gombaut and Macée, a pastoral narrative work featuring here the dog spilling the pot as the bride and groom arrive, with the annotation "Gombavlt vovs ferez bom mesnage vovs et Macée elle est bien sage et avrez des enffans assez" (Gombault vous ferez bon ménage, vous et Macée, elle est bien sage, aurez assez d'enfants). Dimensions: h 250 x 195 cm, condition: linen-lined tapestry, with fastenings at the top, the borders woven later, some visible to barely visible wear restorations, the colors well preserved. Provenance: late 2014 from Sotheby's by the current owner.
